Runway AI Review 2026: Pricing, Credits, and Product Ads

Runway's entry paid plan, Standard, is $15/month billed monthly or $12/month billed annually, and it includes 625 credits. That is roughly ten five-second Gen-4.5 clips. The pricing page loads with annual billing preselected, so the $12 shown by default is not what you pay month to month. All figures verified on runway.com/pricing on 12 August 2026.

We make Pikes AI, which competes with Runway on part of this. Every number below comes from Runway's own live pages, checked the day this was written.

What does Runway cost in 2026?

Runway sells four self-serve tiers plus Enterprise. The prices below are the Runway Creative plans; the Runway Dev (API) tab is priced separately.

Unknown block type "comparisonTable", specify a component for it in the `components.types` option
Table. Columns: Plan, Verified price, Credits per month, Notable limits. Plan: Free; Verified price: $0, permanent; Credits per month: 125, one time only; Notable limits: Limited model set, 5GB storage. Plan: Standard; Verified price: $15/mo billed monthly, or $12/mo billed annually (saves $36/yr); Credits per month: 625; Notable limits: Credits reset each cycle. Plan: Pro; Verified price: $35/mo billed monthly, or $28/mo billed annually (saves $84/yr); Credits per month: 2,250; Notable limits: 500GB storage, audio tools. Plan: Max; Verified price: $95/mo billed monthly, or $76/mo billed annually (saves $228/yr); Credits per month: 9,500; Notable limits: Credits roll over one month. Plan: Enterprise; Verified price: Custom; Credits per month: Custom; Notable limits: SSO, analytics, teamspaces

Two things in that table matter more than the headline number.

First, the page defaults to yearly. The billing selector in the top right reads "Yearly -20% off", and each paid card shows a struck-through monthly price next to the annual one. If you land on the page and read "$12", you are reading an annual commitment. Runway's toggle is easy to drive. Click the selector, choose Monthly, and $12/$28/$76 becomes $15/$35/$95 with the "Billed annually" line gone.

Second, the advertised 20% discount really is 20% on every plan. $15 to $12, $35 to $28, $95 to $76. Check that arithmetic per plan on any vendor rather than trusting the banner, because a rounded headline percentage can hide a smaller discount on the entry tier.

The page also carries a dated promotion today, unlimited Seedance 2.5 on new Max plans until 14 August 2026. If you are reading this later, assume it has expired.

What is a Runway credit actually worth?

Runway prices everything in credits and never publishes a dollar-per-credit figure. Divide the plan price by the monthly allowance and it falls out:

Unknown block type "comparisonTable", specify a component for it in the `components.types` option
Table. Columns: Plan, Credits/mo, Cost per credit, monthly billing, Cost per credit, annual billing. Plan: Standard; Credits/mo: 625; Cost per credit, monthly billing: $0.0240; Cost per credit, annual billing: $0.0192. Plan: Pro; Credits/mo: 2,250; Cost per credit, monthly billing: $0.0156; Cost per credit, annual billing: $0.0124. Plan: Max; Credits/mo: 9,500; Cost per credit, monthly billing: $0.0100; Cost per credit, annual billing: $0.0080

The entry tier is the worst unit price by a wide margin. On monthly billing, a credit on Standard costs 2.4 times what the same credit costs on Max. That gap matters more than the headline price, because what you are buying is output volume.

How much does one product clip or image cost?

Runway publishes a credit cost per model. The spread is large enough that "625 credits" tells you almost nothing until you know which model you plan to run.

Unknown block type "comparisonTable", specify a component for it in the `components.types` option
Table. Columns: Model, Credit cost, Cost on Pro, billed monthly. Model: Gen-4 Video Turbo; Credit cost: 25 credits / 5s; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $0.39. Model: Gen-4.5; Credit cost: 60 credits / 5s; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $0.93. Model: Kling 3.0 Pro (with audio); Credit cost: 85 credits / 5s; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $1.32. Model: Seedance 2.0 Pro 1080p; Credit cost: 160 credits / 4s; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $2.49. Model: Veo 3.1 (with audio); Credit cost: 320 credits / 8s; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $4.98. Model: Gen-4 Image 1080p; Credit cost: 8 credits / image; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $0.12. Model: Gen-4 Image Turbo; Credit cost: 2 credits / image; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $0.03. Model: Nano Banana Pro 2K; Credit cost: 20 credits / image; Cost on Pro, billed monthly: $0.31

Normalized per second of video, the cheapest models run 5 credits per second (Gen-4 Video Turbo, Act-Two) and the most expensive run 40 (Veo 3.1, Veo 3, Seedance 2.0 Pro). That is an eight-fold spread inside one subscription, and Runway does not publish it as a per-second number anywhere.

How many product ads can each plan actually produce?

Take a modest monthly creative test for one brand: 20 static variations and 10 five-second clips.

On Gen-4 Image plus Gen-4.5, that is (20 x 8) + (10 x 60) = 760 credits. Standard's 625 does not cover it. The smallest plan that carries one small monthly test is Pro at $35/month billed monthly.

Scale it up and the ceiling arrives quickly. Thirty video variations on Veo 3.1, the model that generates audio with the clip, costs 30 x 320 = 9,600 credits. That is more than Max's entire 9,500-credit monthly allowance. Sound-on video at test volume puts you into an Enterprise conversation.

Switch models and the same budget behaves differently. Those 30 clips on Gen-4.5 cost 1,800 credits and sit comfortably inside Pro. Model choice is the biggest lever on your monthly bill, bigger than which plan you sit on.

Plan around one more constraint. On Standard and Pro, monthly credits do not roll over; they reset within 24 hours of your billing date. Only Max rolls unused credits into the following month. You can buy additional credits from the dashboard in minimum blocks of 1,000, and those do not expire, though the pricing page does not state what they cost.

Is the free plan enough to evaluate Runway?

Barely. The Free plan gives you a one-time deposit of 125 credits that, in Runway's words, "does not expire, and does not renew or refresh once spent", plus 5GB of asset storage and access to "a limited set of generative AI tools".

At 60 credits per five-second Gen-4.5 clip, 125 credits is two clips. At 8 credits per Gen-4 Image, it is fifteen stills. Runway also does not publish which models are in the free set. Its help center tells you to log in with a free account to see current availability, so you cannot know in advance whether the model you want to test is included.

Output is also marked. The pricing page lists "No watermarks" as a Standard-plan feature, and Runway's own Free plan help article carries an FAQ entry titled "Why do my videos have a Watermark?". Clean output starts at $15/month billed monthly.

The licensing is unambiguous, and that is worth knowing before you test. Runway's help center states: "Yes, the content you create using Runway is yours to use without any non-commercial restrictions from us. As between you and Runway, you retain ownership and all your rights for your creations and generations."

Where Runway fits for a consumer brand, and where it doesn't

Runway describes itself as a "complete Creative Suite" for generating and editing video, images and audio, and the customer logos on its pricing page lean entertainment and enterprise, including Lionsgate and Legendary. The model roster is wide: Gen-4.5, Aleph 2.0, Veo 3.1, several Kling versions, Seedance, WAN, Nano Banana Pro, FLUX.2 and GPT Image, all drawing on one credit balance. If you want to try six video models without six subscriptions, that is a real advantage, and the per-model credit table means you can price it before you subscribe.

Your catalog is not the organizing idea. Runway's pricing and product pages are built around models and credits rather than SKUs. For a consumer brand, the hard part of ad production is producing four hundred assets in which the label text, the pack color and the cap shape are still correct in every one of them. That is a fidelity problem, and general-purpose video models drift on exactly those details.

That gap is why we built Pikes AI to generate from a brand's actual products rather than from a text prompt alone. The test that settles it is tool-agnostic, and you can run it on Runway this afternoon with 125 free credits. Generate the same pack shot eight times, open all eight at 100% zoom, and read the label in each. If the type stays legible and consistent, the tool holds your product. If it turns to mush by the fourth image, no amount of credits will fix it.

Whichever way that test goes, price the tool on output volume rather than on the subscription line. A $35 plan that yields twelve usable assets costs more than a $95 plan that yields two hundred. Runway makes that calculation possible because it publishes the credit cost of every model, so start with the cost-per-image math across the category and check your shortlist against it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Runway cost per month? Standard is $15/month billed monthly or $12/month billed annually. Pro is $35/month billed monthly or $28/month billed annually. Max is $95/month billed monthly or $76/month billed annually. The pricing page preselects annual billing, so the lower number is the one you see first. Verified 12 August 2026.

Does Runway have a free plan? Yes, and it is free permanently, but the credits are not recurring. You get a one-time deposit of 125 credits that never expires and never refreshes, plus 5GB of storage and a limited selection of models.

How many videos do you get on Runway's cheapest paid plan? Standard's 625 monthly credits buy about ten five-second Gen-4.5 clips, or one Veo 3.1 clip with audio, or 78 Gen-4 images at 1080p. The answer changes by a factor of eight depending on which model you pick.

Do Runway credits roll over? Only on Max, and only for one month. On Standard and Pro, unused credits reset within 24 hours of your billing date. Credits you buy separately, in minimum blocks of 1,000, do not expire.

Can you use Runway output in paid ads? Yes. Runway's help centre states that you retain ownership and all rights to your generations, with no non-commercial restrictions and no requirement to credit Runway. If you are running that output on Amazon or a retail media network, check the platform's own AI disclosure rules, because several of them now require specific file metadata.

Is Runway a good choice for product photography? It is a video-first creative suite with image models attached, not a product-photography tool. It is a reasonable pick if you need many video models under one subscription and are staffed to art-direct each generation. If your problem is producing hundreds of on-brand assets from a fixed catalog, look at tools built around a product library instead. We cover the credit-based options in this category and turning existing product photos into video ads separately.
